He took his first piano lessons from his uncle and teacher Maestro Ubaldo Giardini, he then continued under the guidance of Gianmaria Bonino achieving a diploma in classical piano at the conservatory of La Spezia (Italy). Afterwards, he attended several stages of improvisation and decide to enroll in the class of jazz piano at the Conservatory of Nice (France). He successfully graduated and at the same time, he played in several ensembles among which the “Conte Big Band” directed by Giampaolo Casati and, from 2003, in the Italian-French quartet led by trombonist Luca Begonia. He then collaborated with various artists like Gianni Basso, Emanuele Cisi, Claudio Capurro, David Amar. From 2006 to 2008 he performed as steady member of Paul Jeffrey’s Europe Tour group, also recording in 2009 for Imago Records the CD “We See”, a Thelonius Monk tribute. In the same year he began his collaboration with Andy Gravish and Mike Campagna by creating the project “5AM”, the CD has been released in 2011 and distributed by Anticraft. In 2009 he was invited by brothers Luis and Philippe Petrucciani to take part in a tour for the tenth anniversary of the disappearance of Michel Petrucciani. In this occasion, he had the opportunity to stage in some of the most well known Italian Jazz Festivals. From 2010 Alessandro Collina has an important live collaboration with trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso, in France and Italy.
