Charlotte de Rothschild, Gabriel Fauré: Piano Music

FROM ALBUM NOTES by Luca Ciammarughi:

n 1860, Baroness Charlotte de Rothschild under the name Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild published four piano pieces for the Parisian publisher Maho: a Nocturne and a Polka, both in C minor and two Waltzes, in A minor and F minor. The publication goes unnoticed until 2014. Pianist Philip Sears, in search of rare pieces on the site of the Bibliothèque National de France Gallica, found that two of these pieces are identical to Frédéric Chopin’s posthumous works: the Nocturne in C Minor B. 108, unpublished until 1937, and the Waltz in A minor B. 150, unpublished until 1955. Only dynamic indications are different, especially in the Nocturne. The homogeneous dynamics of the Maho edition in the version published by the Chopin Institute in Warsaw are more pronounced. In addition, Nocturne is indicated with Andante sostenuto instead of Andante. […] (Translation Alan Richmond)
