Franco D’Andrea is one of the most important musicians of the Italian jazz scene. His successful career is studded with awards achieved in Italy, Europe and all over the world.
His piano-playing has been widely appreciated by many American musicians who performed with him, people like Lee Konitz, Phil Woods and others.
His personal style, easily recognizable, is the result of decades spent in getting more and more into improvised music and jazz.
D’Andrea is also a prolific composer. In his countless compositions he has explored structures and languages never giving up melodic and harmonic elements.
Aldo Mella, D’Andrea’s bass-player for 23 years, strongly fascinated by his master’s compositions, listening and watching them from a different point of view, recently wondered how they would sound like if played by a quartet. Therefore he thought to involve in his project three other musicians who had a high artistic profile and proven experience : Francesco Bearzatti on clarinet, Alessandro Chiappetta on guitar and Elio Rivagli on drums.
The four musicians, in full agreement with each other, were able to perform a series of good sounding tunes and a captivating and fluid sonic blend between guitar and clarinet.
The aim of the project is to give a new life and a new look to a sequence of very good compositions without upsetting their primary appeal.
