Giovanni Damiani: Doni tra il risveglio, for Clarinet in A and Harpsichord

Cover of Giovanni Damiani: Doni tra il risveglio for clarinet in A and harpsichord, DV 12063

Doni tra il risveglio by Giovanni Damiani is a composition in natural microintervals for clarinet in A and harpsichord. This edition comprises the score and clarinet part.

In his introductory note, the composer explores the unusual pairing of two instruments with contrasting timbres and expressive possibilities. Harmonics 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 of the clarinet’s lowest sounding note, C-sharp, provide the basis for a shared 15-note scale and a system of 24 harmonic aggregates.

The work develops material from Damiani’s earlier composition Tramuta. Riaffiora. Connections between the 24 aggregates are represented by a geometric graph forming a truncated octahedron; these relationships inform the central and final sections of the music.

The score includes the composer’s explanatory notes in Italian, dated 2011, with tuning examples and a diagram of the harmonic relationships. A detailed clarinet fingering chart is provided by Marco Salvaggio. The clarinetist may adjust intonation as required or use the indicated fingerings; the harpsichord tuning may be applied to a single register.

As stated in the original edition, if the individual part has not been included in the volume, a digital copy can be requested free of charge by writing to info@davinci-edition.com.
