Ippazio Ettore Ponzetta’s 3 Studi d’Autore, Op. 2, for solo piano brings together three studies after Bach, Beethoven and Mendelssohn. The volume opens with Preludio Corale, dedicated to Giuseppe Andaloro; the second study, after Beethoven, is dedicated to Federico Colli; and Grand Organ, after Mendelssohn, is dedicated to Olaf John Laneri.
The edition includes introductory remarks in Italian by the three dedicatees. Andaloro discusses the first study’s rich piano writing and clear thematic lines, while Laneri describes the Mendelssohn transcription’s fidelity to the organ original and its use of the piano’s contrasting layers of sound.
