Duo Chiman

Biography

Duo Chiman was born in 2024 from the artistic partnership between saxophonist Marco Mancini and pianist Camilla Chiga, with a project devoted to reworking sonatas from the classical and romantic repertoire originally conceived for other instruments: an ambitious idea that breaks with established performing conventions while preserving their most authentic stylistic essence. The Duo also presents itself as one of the foremost interpreters of the original repertoire written for saxophone and piano. Two artists for whom intensity and interpretative depth are guiding stars, capable of steering every performance toward a vibrant rapport with the audience. Marco Mancini (Foggia, 1998) graduated with full marks and honours in Saxophone and in Chamber Music from the “Niccolò Piccinni” Conservatoire of Bari, under the guidance of M°Valter Nicodemi and M°Ludovica Rana. In 2012 he won First Prize in the Wind Instruments category at the “Torneo Internazionale di Musica” in Paris, followed by numerous further prizes in national and international competitions. The last private student of Jean-Marie Londeix, he also studied with E. Rousseau, M. Marzi, J.Y. Formeau, A. Bornkamp, C. Delangle and O. Murphy, performing on Italian national television (RAI) and in leading Italian theatres. A founding member of the AlGoRhythm Ensemble, receiving in 2024, also as a soloist, the title of JLV Ambassador , the first Italian saxophone quartet so honoured. He recorded the world premiere complete solo saxophone works of Barry Cockcroft for Da Vinci Classics, and those of Giacinto Scelsi and Ryo Noda for Moto Armonico Records. He is currently a doctoral candidate in Electroacoustic Composition, Sound Arts and Intermedial Applications at the “Umberto Giordano” Conservatoire of Foggia, under the supervision of M° Nicola Monopoli. Camilla Chiga (Brindisi, 2001) holds the Master’s degree in Piano and in Chamber Music from the “Niccolò Piccinni” Conservatoire of Bari, under the guidance of M°Pasquale Iannone and M°Giuseppe Gravino, where she has served as staff piano accompanist since 2025. Having made her solo debut at the age of fourteen, she has won over forty national and international prizes , including Second Prize (First Prize not awarded) at the Ferruccio Busoni Competition in Florence, performing in the final with orchestra and has appeared in leading Italian theatres and festivals, among them the Camerata Musicale Barese in Bari, the Festival San Giacomo in Bologna and RomaTreOrchestra in Rome, as well as abroad in Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, refining her artistry in masterclasses with Maestri such as Andrea Lucchesini and Gabor Farkàs. She recorded for the Digressione Music label a programme devoted to Liszt and Chopin, for a boxed set honouring the piano school of M° Pasquale Iannone; M° Cristiano Burato has said of her that she “has the very breath of music within her”. The Duo performs regularly throughout Italy: recent engagements include the Nino Rota Auditorium of the “Niccolò Piccinni” Conservatoire in Bari; the Santa Chiara Auditorium in Foggia for the “Musica Civica Young” series; Palazzo Vives-Frisari in Bisceglie for the ArteVives association; “Il Palco in una Stanza” in Manfredonia for the “Concerti d’Autunno” series; the Castromediano Museum in Lecce for the “Musica al Museo” season of the Mozart association, in both 2025 and 2026; the Sala Giardino in Lecce for the 55th season of “Classica d’Estate” of the Camerata Musicale Salentina; Palazzo Baronale in Torchiara (SA) for the “Primavera Musicale a Palazzo Baronale” festival; and the Festival del Capo di Leuca for the “Cameristica Internazionale” series of the Eleusi APS association.
