Enzo Lanzo

Biography

Enzo Lanzo
He began playing at a very early age as a self-taught musician. Later, he studied singing, piano, and percussion at a local music school.

He went on to pursue advanced studies with masters such as Enrico Rava, Roberto Gatto, Jon Christensen, Pierre Favre, Paul Bley, and Gary Peacock. Initially influenced by Max Roach, Philly Joe Jones, and Art Blakey, he later drew inspiration from Roy Haynes and Jack DeJohnette, as well as European drummers like Günter Sommer, Tony Oxley, and Paul Lovens. Through his sound research, he strives for a new fusion of improvised music. Lanzo debut took place in 1992 with Enrico Rava’s group, a pivotal experience that introduced him to the European scene. In 1996, he released his debut album, "Rondonella Project," under the British label Leo Records. This work highlights the core elements of his music: a constantly evolving melody that achieves a unique balance between folk and jazz traditions. He has collaborated with artists such as Dave Murray, Danilo Rea, Gianluigi Trovesi, Ernst Reijseger, Roberto Ottaviano, Stefano Bollani, Dado Moroni, Ira Coleman, Rita Marcotulli, Enzo Pietropaoli, and Gary Smulyan. His career has taken him across the globe, performing in Europe, Indonesia, India, the USA, Africa, China, Australia, Cuba, and Japan.
