Gagliano String Quartet

Biography

The members of the Gagliano String Quartet — Carlo Dumont and Sergio Carnevale (violins), Paolo Di Lorenzo (viola), and Manuela Albano (cello) — were trained by the Amadeus Quartet at the Royal Academy of Music in London, by Piero Farulli of the Quartetto Italiano at the Fiesole Music School, and by the Alban Berg Quartet at the Musikhochschule in Lübeck.

With a repertoire ranging from Scarlatti to the most recent avant-garde composers, the Quartet aims to broaden traditional concert programmes, devoting particular attention to the rediscovery of chamber works by composers of the Neapolitan school, such as Martucci, Longo, Cesi, Pilati, and Alfano.
Alongside their teaching activities, the ensemble has performed a number of monographic concert cycles and developed several artistic projects, including, during the 2019–2020 season, the complete performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s string quartets, marking the 250th anniversary of the composer’s birth.
