Gregorio Fracchia
Biography
Gregorio Fracchia was born in Turin in 1996. He began studying classical guitar at the age of six. A student of Maurizio Colonna, who guided him not only in musical interpretation but also in composition, he graduated from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Turin two years early with top marks and honors.
He also earned a classical high school diploma with full marks. At the age of twelve, he performed live on national television (RAI Tre). He later obtained a second-level degree in guitar at the Conservatory of L’Aquila, graduating with honors and distinction under the guidance of Senio Díaz. He further refined his skills with Eliot Fisk at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.
Gregorio Fracchia also holds a degree with honors in theoretical philosophy from the University of Turin. He was also awarded a PhD in Philosophy from IUSS Pavia–University of Turin, with a dissertation entitled Future Metaphysics, and conducted research stays at KU Leuven and Columbia University in New York.
From a very young age, he began performing in concerts and entered the professional music world. At seventeen, he recorded his first album and simultaneously released several collections of original compositions. As a concert guitarist, he has performed three times as a soloist in Granada’s Cathedral Square. He has presented his own compositions at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan—introduced by Enrico Intra and Maurizio Franco during the Italian Jazz Graffiti series—and at Bocconi University in Milan. In Spain, he has given concerts at the Conservatories of Granada and Málaga, the International Music Festival of Toledo, and various other locations, also performing in duo with Ángel Conde, piano professor at the Victoria Eugenia Conservatory of Granada.
As a composer, before the age of twenty he had already published three albums of original music—two in Italy (Bèrben and Mucchi, including a tribute to Italian theater legends Vittorio Gassman, Carmelo Bene, and Franco Zeffirelli), and one in Spain.
As an essayist, he published a work on musical aesthetics in 2014—at the age of seventeen—through Editoriale Scientifica. Building on these reflections, he has held seminars at the University of Salento, the University of Granada (on Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu), and the Superior Conservatory of Granada (on the concept of contemporaneity in music).
His discography includes two albums: d-Tunes (Ema Records, distributed by Egeamusic) and Contemporarity (dotGuitar/Ema Records). The first was recorded across four European universities: the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Tor Vergata University in Rome, the University of Granada, and Bocconi University in Milan.
During this period, he gave interviews on Radio 24 (for Musica Maestro! by Armando Torno) and on the Corriere della Sera blog. In 2014, Italian singer Mina Mazzini wrote on her Vanity Fair blog: “You already have an enviable technique. Keep going, Gre. I wish you the best, and I feel it will come.” In 2016, he performed at Milan’s Royal Palace for the launch of Francesco Bonami’s book, at the invitation of Mondadori Electa. His piece The Sea (from d-Tunes), along with an excerpt from his Radio24 interview, was featured in Daniele Vicari’s film Sole, cuore, amore, produced by Fandango with Rai Cinema.
In 2016, he was selected by La Repubblica as one of the twenty most successful and well-known Italian twenty-year-olds, featured on the cover of D–Donna for the special edition “Twenty like us.”
In 2017, at the age of twenty, Mondadori published his mystery novel L’altro suono dell’ombra, featuring Andrés Segovia as the main character. It was the first novel centered on the guitar published in Italy by a major publishing house and has been presented in numerous public events, discussed by renowned figures such as Gianni Vattimo, Margherita Oggero, Enrico Intra, and Armando Torno.
In January 2018, his album of original works Music to Me (L&C) was released, thanks in part to winning the SIAE S’illumina grant. In 2020, he released another album titled ΠΩΣ, also under Ema Records.
His latest album, Bach Recital (Ema Records), released in 2022, is entirely dedicated to Bach and includes the Chaconne in Segovia’s transcription.
He also translated into Italian the biography Abel Carlevaro. A New World in the Guitar, by A. Escande (Ema Vinci Edizioni), and curated a collection of transcriptions for guitar.
His latest album of original compositions, Trittico, was recently released by Da Vinci Edizioni (distributed by Hal Leonard).
Since 2024, he has been an official Ramírez artist and performs with a Ramírez Auditorio model guitar, featuring a 664 mm scale length.
