Ilia Iashin
Born into a musical family, Ilia began his journey with the cello at the age of six. His exceptional talent quickly became apparent, leading to his first international concert tour in France at just eleven years old.

This early experience on the world stage set the course for a vibrant international career.
Ilia is a graduate of the prestigious Moscow Conservatory, where he studied under the guidance of Igor Bobowitsch (cello) and Andrey Spiridonov (baroque cello). His outstanding abilities were recognized with scholarships from both the esteemed International Fon Meck Foundation and the Zubkov Scholarship throughout his studies. To further refine his artistry, he completed an internship at the renowned Menuhin Academy in Switzerland under masters Clemens Hagen and Lionel Cottet. His musical education was enriched by masterclasses with the world famous cellists,
including David Geringas, Ivan Monighetti, Wolfgang Emmanuel Schmidt, Danjulo Ishizaka, Johannes Moser, Justus Grimm, and Boris Andrianov.
As a soloist, Ilia has performed with leading orchestras across Russia and abroad, captivating audiences in France, Italy, Germany, China, Turkey, and Kazakhstan. His notable collaborations include performances with Rosarium Baroque Orchestra, the Terra Incognita Symphony Orchestra, the Kazakh National Symphony Orchestra named after Rachmadiev, Tchaikovsky Chamber Orchestra and many others. A significant early career highlight was his performance of Haydn's Sinfonia Concertante, conducted by the world-famous maestro Vladimir Jurowski, with the Moscow Conservatory Orchestra, an honour he received as the conservatory's best cellist student of the year.
Ilia's repertoire spans from the Baroque to the ultra-contemporary. He is a passionate advocate for new music, having premiered several works by Russian and European composers. His deep engagement with contemporary music is also evident through his participation in the Reheard ensemble. Furthermore, he has contributed to the symphonic tradition as a member of PERSIMFANS, the world's first conductorless symphony orchestra.
A dedicated chamber musician, Ilia has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Rodion Zamuruev, Massimo Giuseppe Bianchi, Boris Borgolotto, Anna Savkina, Georgy Gusev, Berlinsky Quartet. As a festival member he has performed at events including the Cello Akademie Rutesheim (Germany), the Diaghilev Festival under the direction of Teodor Currentzis, Winter Music Festival in Sochi under the direction of Yury Bashmet, International "Music Without Visas" project by
Denis von Meck and many others.
In 2024, driven by a passion for innovative programming, Ilia founded CelloArte, a unique “transformer-ensemble” specializing in masterful transcriptions of the most complex symphonic scores. His artistic vision also extends to recording; in February 2025, he partnered with pianist Iana Batina to record his debut album, Lost In Transcription under the patronage of the international label Da Vinci Classics.
Alongside his active performing career, Ilia is a dedicated pedagogue, sharing his knowledge and passion with the next generation of musicians. He currently teaches at Tsinghua International School in Beijing, he is also a guest professor of the All-Russian Cello Academy in Moscow.
Ilia performs on a magnificent French cello crafted by the renowned luthier Honore Derazey (c. 1850), an instrument provided by the Russian State Collection of Unique Musical Instruments.
