Konstantinos Siskos
Biography
Kostantinos Siskos was born in Corfu, Greece, in 1973 and began studying the French horn at the age of 11 with the “Kapodistrias” Symphonic Band of Corfu.
He continued his studies in Athens at the “Raimondi” Conservatory with Spyros Kessaris, then Principal Horn of the Greek National Opera, and obtained his Diploma with honours in 1994 from the “Orfeion” Conservatory. He later attended workshops with Francis Orval, Ab Koster and Dennis Wick. From 2000 to 2002 he pursued postgraduate studies at the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, under Professor Hector McDonald, graduating with honours and specialising in modern double horn, Vienna horn and natural horn.
From 2000 to 2003 Siskos served as Principal Horn of the Greek National Opera Orchestra, and since 2004 he has held the same position with the Athens State Orchestra. For over twenty years he has collaborated regularly with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra on Vienna horn and has participated in productions with ensembles such as Concentus Musicus Wien, the Wroclaw Baroque Orchestra, the Konzertverein Chamber Orchestra of Vienna, the Prague National Opera Orchestra and the Borusan Philharmonic Orchestra of Istanbul, working with conductors including Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Stefan Gottfried.
Chamber music has played a central role in his career. He has been a member of the “Tal” Woodwind Quintet, the Athens State Orchestra Woodwind Quintet, and since 2004 the “Metallon” Brass Ensemble. An active pedagogue for many years, Siskos has taught at several major conservatories in Athens and Corfu, with a particular focus on young students. More than twenty-five of his pupils have gone on to successful professional careers in Greek and European orchestras. Alongside his teaching, he has organised numerous workshops and masterclasses in Greece, aiming to strengthen artistic links between the Greek musical scene and the major European musical centres.
