Manuel Malandrini
Biography
Manuel Malandrini, a gifted pianist and self-taught composer, began his musical journey in 2001 at the Accademia Musicale Valdarnese in San Giovanni Valdarno under the guidance of Samuele Amidei.
His musical pursuits continued at the Conservatory "F. Vittadini" of Pavia, where he earned a bachelor's degree with honors in 2011. In 2018, he achieved a Diploma with honors in performance at the "Scuola di Musica di Fiesole" under the guidance of the renowned Italian pianist Pietro de Maria. Notably, he was awarded the prestigious "Giuliano Valori" scholarship for outstanding achievement as the best student, presented by Pietro de Maria and Alain Meunier.
Malandrini's musical prowess extends beyond his formal education. He actively participated in workshops and masterclasses conducted by eminent pianists such as Paul Gulda, Bart Van Oort, Kostantin Bogino, and others. His commitment and talent have been recognized through various national and international piano competitions, including notable achievements such as the London Grand Prize Virtuoso (second prize), Luigi Giulotto Prize (first prize), and LIMF Concerto Competition (first prize).
His presence in national and international concert seasons is marked by performances at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Festival International de Piano de la Roque d'Anthéron, and the Siam Rachada Auditorium in Bangkok. He has also graced stages in Austria, Poland, Chile, and Spain, as well as Italy, his home country, including notable venues such as the Hungarian Consulate in Rome, the French Consulate in Florence, and various churches, theaters, and cultural events across the country.
In the realm of interpretation, Malandrini distinguishes himself by working towards the revalorization of lesser-known 18th-century composers. His dedication to bringing these composers to light is a testament to his passion for preserving and promoting their unique contributions while championing the cause of these overlooked musical gems.
In addition to his interpretations, Malandrini is a skilled composer, focusing on XVIII-century-style orchestral and solo pieces. Notably, his piano concerto in D minor received acclaim in both piano quintet and original symphonic versions, performed at the Lunigiana International Music Festival and the "Cuadros a la Primavera" festival in Santiago de Chile, respectively. Recently, he earned a first prize in composition at the Bach International Music Competition.
His diverse repertoire, commitment to both performance and composition, and efforts in revaluing 18th-century composers solidify Manuel Malandrini's place as a distinguished figure in the realm of classical music.
