Maria Clara Maiztegui
Biography
Maria Clara Maiztegui is a coloratura soprano who began her vocal training in Argentina under mezzo-soprano M.
C. Zuccalà and baritone E. Cogorno. She later specialized in baroque singing at the Conservatorio di Verona, Italy, with Maestro V. Di Donato, and is currently furthering her studies with mezzo-soprano N. Petrenko.
Since October 2018, she has served as a soloist with the Cappella Marciana, the historic musical chapel of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice. She maintains an active career as a concert soloist, performing both in Italy and internationally.
Her repertoire encompasses a wide range, from motets and madrigals of the Renaissance and early Baroque to the oratorio and operatic works of the late Baroque and Classical periods. She is a member of several professional chamber vocal ensembles—among them Camerata Vocale Bozen, Ensemble Arcana, Guillou Consort, and I Solisti della Cappella Marciana—collaborating regularly in both sacred and secular contexts.
Maiztegui has interpreted some of the most significant sacred works of the Baroque period, including Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine, Charpentier’s Te Deum, and masses and motets by F. Caccini, A. Grandi, G. Legrenzi, C. Merulo, and A. Lotti. In the late Baroque and Classical repertoire, she has performed, always as a soloist, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Dixit Dominus, Magnificat, and Laudate Pueri; Handel’s Messiah, Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day, and Dixit Dominus; Bach’s Johannes-Passion, Matthäus-Passion, Mass in B minor, and Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen; D. Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater for 10 voices; Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater; Haydn’s Harmoniemesse in B-flat major; Mozart’s Requiem, Coronation Mass, and Exsultate, jubilate; and Schubert’s Mass No. 2 in G major.
On the operatic stage, she has debuted as Zerlina in Don Giovanni, performed in Il sogno di Scipione, and portrayed Euridice in F. Caccini’s L’Euridice as well as Euridice and La Musica in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, and roles in Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria. She has also sung Spring and Juno in The Fairy Queen, and Belinda in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas.
As a soloist, she has worked under the baton of renowned conductors including Federico Maria Sardelli, Sigiswald Kuijken, Martin Gester, Stefano Giaroli, Gabriel Garrido, Alessandro Quarta, Franco Pavan, Roberto Loreggian, Roberto Balconi, Marco Gemmani, and Matteo Valbusa.
