Mark Shapiro
An acclaimed conductor of orchestras, opera, and choruses, Mark Shapiro has won six ASCAP Awards leading three different ensembles.

The New York Times admired his “spirit of adventure,” praised him as "insightful” and noted his “uncommon polish.” He enjoyed a decade-long tenure as Music Director of The Prince Edward Island Symphony. His critically-lauded album Glass Hour of works by Philip Glass reached the Billboard classical chart twice. He was an invited conductor for the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, and led the orchestral soundtrack in Ric Burns's PBS special about New York City. Shapiro conducted five productions for Juilliard Vocal Arts, and many new works with American Opera Projects, The Center for Contemporary Opera, Encompass New Opera Theater, and Underworld Opera, as well as traditional works with the opera departments of Hofstra, Mannes and Rutgers and The Opera Company of Middlebury. He is Artistic Director of Cantori New York and The Cecilia Chorus of New York, and for more than two decades was Music Director of the Monmouth Civic Chorus in New Jersey.
