Mauricio Galeano

Biography

Mauricio Galeano (b. 1991) is a Uruguayan musician based in Leipzig. He studied guitar at the Escuela Universitaria de Música in Uruguay before continuing his studies with Magnus Andersson in Sweden and Jürgen Ruck at the Würzburg University of Music in Germany.

He has performed at major festivals across Europe, the UK, and South America, both as a soloist and guest performer, and has led workshops and residencies at numerous institutions.
In 2022, he released his debut album, Colloid, on Neuma Records, featuring works by renowned New Complexity composers. He has also appeared on releases by the KAIROS and NEOS labels.
In addition to his solo work, Galeano is part of two active duos: Galeano/Javaid with saxophonist Salim(a) Javaid, and a guitar duo with Diego Castro Magas. He has collaborated closely with contemporary composers Andrew Greenwald, Evan Johnson, Richard Barrett, James Erber, Sam Hayden, Wieland Hoban, Ray Evanoff, and others.
Galeano is drawn to radical, complex repertoires and extreme technical challenges, often embracing works that seem unsolvable. His approach thrives on tension, intransigence, and unresolved contradiction, favoring deliberate difficulty over fluent resolution. In this resistance, obstacles become opportunities, transforming performance into unpredictable, expressive territory.
