Michael Rosen
Biography
The “Messaggero”, an Italian paper, defined him as “an interesting and intelligent artist, in dialogue with the audience, and capable to transmit powerful vibrations”.
Saxophonist Michael Rosen moved to Italy in 1987 and currently resides alternatively in Rome and London. During the years he spent within the European musical panorama, Rosen has been a guest soloist in about 200 albums by dozens of artists, some of whom are true icons of pop and folk music (such as Sarah Jane Morris, Mina, Adriano Celentano, Fabio Concato, Rossana Casale, Renato Zero, Eugenio Finardi and many others).
His core activity is in the field of jazz. Rosen proudly collaborated with a number of jazz artists – a number too high for citing them all by name – including Sheila Jordan, Enrico Rava, Franco D’Andrea, Roberto Gatto, Stefano Bollani, Danilo Rea, Carl Anderson, Peter Bernstein, Mike Stern, Kenny Wheeler, L’Orchestra Della Scala and Bobby McFerrin, as well as the English Folk-Jazz ensemble Pentangle.
The latest of the nine albums in which Rosen was the leading performer is “Sweet 17”, issued by Jando Music/Via Veneto. The album was recorded at the legendary New York studio “Sear Sound”, together with Bill Stewart, Lage Lund, Matt Penman, and Ralph Alessi. It was listed in the Jazzit Awards Greatest Jazz Albums of 2015.
On three occasions, Rosen was ranked among the top 10 soprano saxophonists worldwide in the Jazzit Magazine Reader’s Poll, and, in 2011, he ranked fourth after Dave Leibman, Wayne Shorter and Branford Marsalis.
