Biography
Paolo Russo is an Italian pianist, bandoneon player and composer, born in Pescara in 1969 and based in Copenhagen since 1996. He studied piano in Pescara with Chiara Tiboni and Rachele Marchegiani and subsequently attended the Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium in Copenhagen. His further studies included work with Richie Beirach in New York and Néstor Marconi in Buenos Aires.
He began playing bandoneon in 2001. His musical language draws on jazz, classical music, Italian traditions, Nordic influences and Argentine music, connecting written composition with improvisation. His projects have included duo work with violinist Bjarke Falgren and guitarist Jeppe Holst.
On Andrea Marcelli’s The Invisible Child, Russo plays piano on In Other Words, recorded in Copenhagen in 2000 with Fabrizio Mandolini, Klavs Hovman and Marcelli. With Mandolini, he served as an executive producer of that recording project.
