Quartetto Noûs
Biography
Quartetto Noûs was founded in 2011. Its name derives from the Greek word for mind or intellect, also associated with inspiration and creativity. The ensemble’s training brought together Italian and European quartet traditions, including studies with the Quartetto di Cremona at the Walter Stauffer Academy, Rainer Schmidt in Basel, Günter Pichler in Madrid and Siena, and Heime Müller in Lübeck.
The quartet received the Piero Farulli Prize in 2015 and has developed a repertoire extending from the Classical and Romantic traditions to contemporary music. Its work includes collaborations with composers, theatre and dance companies, and experiments with concert presentation. It has performed widely in Europe, North America and Asia and recorded for Brilliant Classics, Tactus, Da Vinci Classics and Warner Classics. Its Da Vinci recording Dal nero del tempo includes Marco Quagliarini’s string quartet Dal buio.
