Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf

Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf (1739-1799) was an Austrian composer and violinist. A contemporary of Haydn and Mozart, he wrote symphonies, operas, sacred music and instrumental works. His concertos for double bass remain important examples of eighteenth-century writing for the instrument, balancing cantabile melody with virtuosity and the elegant proportions of the Classical style.
