Charles Hubert Hastings Parry

(b Bournemouth, 27 Feb 1848; d Rustington, Sussex, 7 Oct 1918). English composer, scholar and teacher.

Combining these three activities with a forceful personality and social position, he exercised a revitalizing influence on English musical life at a time in the 19th century when standards of composition, performance, criticism and education were low.
