Costantino Bertucci

Biography

Costantino Bertucci (1841–1931) was an Italian mandolin virtuoso, composer and teacher, born in Rome. He sought to expand the mandolin’s technical and expressive range, developing a concert repertoire beyond its familiar popular associations.

His pupils performed in Italy and abroad, including appearances before the Italian royal family. In 1878 he took a double mandolin quartet to the Paris Exposition. Much of his music was published by Ricordi, including studies, fantasies, character pieces, serenades and arrangements of operatic music. His 18 Studies for Mandolin were dedicated to Princess Margherita of Savoy. He died in Rome on 30 April 1931.
