Fernando Jaumandreu Obradors
Biography
Fernando Jaumandreu Obradors was a Spanish composer, pianist and conductor best known for his Canciones clásicas españolas. He began studying piano with his mother, Julia, and developed his knowledge of composition, harmony and counterpoint before continuing his musical education in Barcelona and Paris.
His career included orchestral conducting in Barcelona and a period in Las Palmas, where he directed the conservatory and the orchestra of the Sociedad Filarmónica de Gran Canaria. In addition to songs, he composed orchestral music and zarzuelas. Written between 1921 and 1941, the four volumes of Canciones clásicas españolas draw on Spanish poetry, traditional texts and melodies, combining vivid vocal writing with piano accompaniments often suggestive of the guitar.
