Francesco Lecce

Biography

Francesco Lecce was a Neapolitan violinist and composer active in the later eighteenth century. He studied at the Conservatorio di Santa Maria di Loreto and worked within the musical life of Naples, including its ecclesiastical and theatrical institutions. His surviving works include secular vocal music, sonatas for two violins and continuo, and the substantial collection of Sonate e Partite for unaccompanied violin. The collection documents an important strand of Neapolitan instrumental writing beyond the better-known operatic repertory.
