Francesco Paolo Supriani

Francesco Paolo Tomaso Supriani (1678-1753) was an Italian cellist and composer, born in Conversano. He studied at the Pietà dei Turchini Conservatory in Naples with Giovanni Carlo Cailò and served in the royal chapels of Barcelona and Naples. His surviving music includes cello toccatas, sonatas and cantatas with obbligato cello. The Principij da imparare a suonare il violoncello provides important evidence of early eighteenth-century cello technique and pedagogy.
