Giovanni Antonio Guido
Biography
Giovanni Antonio Guido was an Italian violinist and composer, born in Genoa around 1675 and trained at the Conservatory of Santa Maria della Pietà dei Turchini in Naples. He played in the Neapolitan Royal Chapel before moving to Paris around 1702, where he entered the service of the Duke of Orléans. His music helped bring Italian instrumental virtuosity into contact with French taste. His surviving works include violin sonatas, motets and the orchestral Scherzi armonici sopra le quattro stagioni dell’anno.
