Lodovico Ferronati
Biography
Lodovico Ferronati was an Italian composer and violinist of Paduan origin, born in the late seventeenth century and active in Bergamo until his death in 1767. He served the Cappella Musicale of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore for more than sixty years, first as leader of the violins and subsequently as maestro di cappella. His surviving violin concertos and sacred works reflect the brilliance of the Venetian instrumental tradition. Much of his output has been lost; manuscript research in Bergamo, Vienna and Dresden has helped bring a selection of his concertos and motets back into performance. He was also involved in the visual arts as a collector and dealer.
