Luigi Hugues

Luigi Hugues (1836–1913) was an Italian flautist, composer and geographer from Casale Monferrato. Alongside an academic career that led to a professorship at the University of Turin, he wrote extensively for the flute.

His output includes studies, original pieces and operatic fantasies, combining instrumental virtuosity with the melodic language of nineteenth-century Italian music. His flute method, La scuola del flauto, remains an important part of the instrument’s teaching repertoire.
