Peter Seabourne

Biography

Peter Seabourne is a British composer. He studied music at Cambridge from 1980 with Robin Holloway, then moved to the University of York in 1983 to pursue a doctorate in composition. After a long period away from composing, he returned to writing in 2001 with a renewed musical language.

His music places communication, emotional expression, lyricism and rhythmic invention at its centre. Literary and natural imagery are important to his work, as in the Emily Dickinson song cycles September Just Septembers and The Garden in the Brain. Music from the latter is heard in an instrumental version for saxophone and piano on On the Saxophone.
