Saburo Takata
Biography
Saburo Takata was a Japanese composer born in Nagoya in 1913. He studied with Kiyoshi Nobutoki and Klaus Pringsheim and graduated from the Tokyo Music School in 1939.
After early work as a conductor, he concentrated on composition and teaching, becoming professor at Kunitachi Music College. His style draws on German Romanticism and, in some works, French Impressionism. His catalogue includes instrumental music and a substantial body of choral works, including settings for the Catholic liturgy in Japanese.
