Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra “Sinnersten” by Mats Edén was composed in 2015 and is dedicated to Stefan Östersjö and Claes Ottelid. The work is scored for solo guitar, string orchestra, timpani and marimba, with a duration of approximately 25 minutes.
The composer’s note in the score explains the title:
Sinnersten or Sintersten is a kind of residue material that you got from the old types of iron making in the area called Bergslagen where I have my family and relatives from several generations back. They were very much involved in the iron mining and making. My grandfather Aron Aronsson and his father and so on where all bergsmän or mountain men in the village Gåsborn in Värmland, Sweden. It was used as building material or sometimes jewellery.
Instrumentation: solo guitar; timpani; marimba; strings (violins I and II, viola, cello and double bass).
