Sinestesie is a cycle of four works for piano four hands, bringing together classical interpretation and jazz improvisation. Conceived by Emanuele Sartoris with Federica Bertot, it invites two pianists to exchange their customary roles: the improviser reads a written part, while the interpreter explores improvisation using the scales and harmonic frameworks provided.
Sartoris composed and notated the music; Bertot developed its detailed interpretative approach, shaping the agogic and narrative character of the cycle. The volume includes introductions, an interpretation guide and an improvisation guide, explaining how the written and improvised sections connect.
The four Sinestesie are associated with fragrances created by Don Donato Ciniello, extending the project into a dialogue between music and scent. The work is dedicated to Federica Bertot, to Ciniello’s creative contribution and to the legacy of Alexander Scriabin.
Emanuele Sartoris is a particularly creative and original Italian pianist and composer.
He started studying piano at the age of 10, quickly developing a passion for blues and jazz. He went on to pursue his studies at the Turin Conservatory, where he graduated and earned his degree in Jazz Composition and Orchestration with highest honors.
Sartoris collaborated with acclaimed artists, such as: Eugenio Finardi, Patrizio Fariselli, Enrico Rava, Tullio De Piscopo, Gianluigi Trovesi, Alessandro Carbonare, Saturnino, Stefano di Battista, Paolo Tomelleri, Fabrizio Bosso, Massimo Barbiero, Eloisa Manera, and Maurizio Brunod.
He released several albums, including "Notturni" with Daniele di Bonaventura, which the magazine Jazzit named among the top 100 albums in the world in 2021. He has recently released "Inquadratura di Composizioni," a duo project with photographer Roberto Cifarelli, published by Paolo Fresu's Tuk Music.
Sartoris is also active as a music educator and promoter. He taught at the Turin Conservatory as a tutor and was a recurring guest on television programs such as "Nessun Dorma" on Rai 5. Lately, he has found the column "La storia del jazz" on the private television network Byoblu.
Federica Bertot grew up in an artistic family and started studying piano at the age of five under the guidance of her father. She consistently ranked among the top performers in national and international piano competitions.
She went on to pursue her studies at the "Vivaldi" Conservatory in Alessandria, where she completed both her First and Second Level Degrees in Classical Piano Performance under Andrea Carcano and Sergio Marchegiani, graduating with highest honors. She was selected as one of the best students and was awarded two fellowships.
Federica has performed at prestigious musical events, collaborating with acclaimed pianists such as Andrea Carcano and Emanuele Sartoris. She consistently attends advanced piano masterclasses with prominent figures on the international scene, such as Laneri, Fiuzzi, Plano.
In addition to her concert activity, Federica devotes herself to music instruction: she has held teaching positions at the Alessandria Conservatory and various other musical institutions and she is the founder and Director of the Mario Bertot Musical Association.
She is concurrently pursuing advanced studies in Music Therapy and Psychology while developing innovative projects, including "Musik macht frei," focused on exploring the role of music within Nazi concentration camps.
