Susanna Pisana

Biography

Susanna Pisana began studying the violin with her father and continued her training with Norbert Brainin, leader of the Amadeus Quartet, developing a particular interest in chamber music.

She has performed at venues in Rome including the Auditorium Parco della Musica, Teatro Argentina, Auditorium del Foro Italico, Teatro Olimpico, Globe Theatre and Teatro di Documenti, and in Milan at I Pomeriggi Musicali and Teatro dell’Arte. Her festival appearances include the early music festival in Urbino, the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte in Montepulciano and the Società Aquilana dei Concerti “B. Barattelli” in L’Aquila.

She has explored historically informed Baroque performance on period instruments, playing a violin by Bernardo Calcagni dating from around 1740, and has performed with Rinaldo Alessandrini’s Concerto Italiano. Her interest in performance practice also extends to contemporary music, in which she has collaborated with the Freon Group and the “G. Petrassi” chamber ensemble.

In 2006 she performed in a live radio broadcast with the Michelangelo Quartet at the Cappella Paolina in the Quirinale Palace, in the presence of Giorgio Napolitano, President of the Italian Republic. From 1991 to 2007 she taught violin and served as concertmaster at the Scuola Popolare di Musica di Testaccio in Rome.
