André Jolivet

André Jolivet (1905-1974) was a French composer whose music explores the expressive and ritual power of sound. He studied with Paul Le Flem and Edgard Varèse and developed an individual language drawing on instrumental colour, rhythm and traditions beyond Western art music. His output spans solo and chamber music, concertos, symphonies, vocal music and stage works, with an important contribution to the twentieth-century wind repertoire.
