Gaetano Corticelli

Biography

Gaetano Corticelli (1804-1840) was an Italian pianist, composer and teacher from Bologna. He studied piano with Benedetto Donelli and counterpoint with Stanislao Mattei at the city’s Liceo Musicale, where he later taught. His music combines virtuoso piano writing with the melodic character of Italian opera. His chamber works include the three trios known as I tre generi, for clarinet, cello and piano, and the Bellini-inspired trios of Op. 55.
