Gaspar Cassadò

Biography

Gaspar Cassadó (1897-1966) was a Spanish cellist and composer born in Barcelona. A pupil of Pablo Casals, he developed an international career as a soloist and chamber musician. His compositions draw on his command of the cello and on Spanish musical traditions, combining lyrical writing, dance rhythms and virtuosity. His Suite for solo cello, composed in 1926, remains a central work in the instrument’s twentieth-century repertoire.
