Jean Louis Duport
Biography
Jean-Louis Duport (1749-1819) was a French cellist, composer and teacher, often called Duport the Younger to distinguish him from his brother Jean-Pierre. He worked in France and at the Prussian court. His treatise on cello fingering and bowing, together with its studies, helped establish the technical foundations of modern cello playing. His compositions include concertos, sonatas and studies.
