Leandro Passagni

Biography

Leandro Passagni (1857–1928) was an Italian composer represented in the organ repertoire by works including his Pastorale. Its cantabile character and sustained drone effects evoke the musical language associated with Christmas pastoral music.

The performance on Puer Natus introduces Barbara Simoni’s violin alongside the organ, treating its colour as though it were an additional nineteenth-century organ stop. This is a choice made for the recording, rather than a separate instrumental version attributed to the composer.
