Marcel Tournier

Marcel Tournier (1879-1951) was a French harpist, composer and teacher. A pupil of Alphonse Hasselmans at the Paris Conservatoire, he succeeded his teacher as professor of harp in 1912 and held the post until 1948. His solo and chamber works expanded the instrument’s technical and expressive vocabulary through richly coloured harmonies and imaginative textures. His music remains central to the French harp repertoire.
