Stefans Grové

Stefans Grové (1922-2014) was a South African composer, teacher and writer. Born in Bethlehem, he studied in Cape Town and at Harvard with Walter Piston, and also worked with Aaron Copland. After teaching at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, he returned to South Africa in 1972 and joined the University of Pretoria. His later music developed a distinctive dialogue between Western compositional techniques and African musical materials. Images from Africa presents a sequence of evocative musical scenes.
