Description
It took 24 years to bring together various compositions into a single album and make sense of them. This work aims to be the framework of research carried out over a long period: musical and personal experience. When the result of these actions conveys a sense of coherence it means that the right time has come to complete the work. Musical research has revolved a lot around the extended techniques of flute sound and in experimenting with the possibilities offered by new technologies. On the one hand, personal research sought to delve into the depths of the soul and act as an intermediary between one’s own spirit and the compositional gesture. On the other hand, it is the result of an analysis and translation of the sensations felt by human experiences in life.
Mini Suite in D Moll
Piece for solo flute with an intimate and reflective atmosphere where the theme of lonelyness is explored through the extended techniques of the flute.
A Volo Radente
Inspired by the poetry of Biagio Marin, the composition bases its writing on an imaginary journey by seaplane from Grado to Pola, flying close to the sea, an element that unites people and cultures.
Deperimenti
The work is inspired by the three-dimensionality concept of painting and in particular by the gesture of cutting the canvas and everything that this meant for an artist like Lucio Fontana. The sound of the flute is accompanied by appropriately elaborated sounds and effects of cutting a canvas.
Elements
The idea of this composition starts from a consideration of the structured / unstructured. A lot of work has always been done on this concept in various sectors and of course also in music. Analyzing in depth the compositions of Bach, Beethoven and many others, we discover that rhythmic and melodic cells are frequently structured with certain rules or pre-existing themes are completely deconstructed.
In the case of “Elements” the theme, of a pastoral nature, is new and is part of the composition itself. It is destructured through various digital sound processing techniques (such as for example granular synthesis) but also with more traditional work carried out on pentagram where the notes are spread in the execution of informal sounds produced from the piccolo.
Thus a backward path unfolds which gradually reveals the theme from the deconstructed structure original which makes its faint appearance only at the end of the piece.
Garage
Recorded in a downtown underground parking, Garage is a piece which contrasts a traditional musical instrument, the flute, and another less “traditional”, that is to say a garage door which produces sounds reminiscent of the voice of a saxophone. The counterpoint between the two voices is interpreted as a dialogue between a woman and a man and reflects the diversity and the difficulty of maintaining the verbal exchange between the two sexes.
Untied
Born from the collaboration with the guitarist Anna Garano, this piece is influenced by flamenco nusical phrasing which, with the help of electronics and some cantabile flute themes and improvisations, builds up an intimate and introspective atmosphere.
String Breath
It is a path where three strongly elaborated electric guitars merge with flutes in a counterpoint of fierce beasts and sweet celestial creatures that blow between the strings making the soul vibrate.
Achille (Hommage à Claude Debussy)
The flute is intertwined with the violine to celebrate one of the composers that most influenced the music evolution in the last century. The piece is built up on a bass pedal sustaining the melodies of the two instruments.
Pola Più
This piece is a tribute to the town of Pola. It is inspired by the tragic exodus of the Italians who lived in that area after the Second World War. The landscape is a kind of a ghost city where you can hear wind sound, lonely walking, slow noises of the shipyard and other sound impressions that still meander today during winter.
Suspensus (Omaggio a Luigi Nono)
Luigi Nono was one of the composers who contributed most to my artistic grow with his works. A tribute was therefore due. The symphonic piece compares choir and orchestra with flute and voice. The result is something very suggestive with a personal aesthetic that plunges us in that world of musical homages that Nono and Kurtag used to make each other.
