Eco-Ritma by Fabrizio Giraudo is a work for guitar, microphone and electronics. Its graphic score sets out a sequence of timed actions involving the microphone and the strings and body of the guitar.
The composer recommends a condenser microphone in direct contact with the guitar. Reverb, delay or other effects may be applied to the live microphone, and the gain may be adjusted during the performance. Times at the beginning of each block indicate approximately when to start; times within a block indicate how long to play.
Section A: slide the microphone from bridge to nut over the two highest-pitched or the two lowest-pitched strings, as indicated.
Section B: repeatedly touch the indicated high-, middle- or low-pitched string pair with the microphone, moving from bridge to nut.
Section C: rub the microphone on the wood of the guitar, varying its angle between 45° and 90°.
Section D: strum selected strings or all strings with the microphone, then gently touch the highest-pitched strings at different points.
The edition includes the graphic score and performance instructions.
