Matteo D’Agostino’s Bacchus is a work for solo horn and concert band, conceived in two movements. In his introductory note, the composer describes its inspiration in the vineyards around Corno di Rosazzo and the cycle of cultivation and harvest.
The first movement has a mystical character, evoking the planting and growth of the vines. The more dynamic second movement depicts the grape harvest and culminates in a dance of Bacchantes. The score gives an approximate duration of 7 minutes 36 seconds.
A performance legend explains the solo horn’s stopped, echo, open, flutter-tongue and multiphonic effects. The accompanying ensemble includes woodwinds, brass, double bass, harp, timpani, mallet instruments and percussion.
This product is the full score. The separate piano reduction is catalogued as DV 12357.
The solo horn part is revised by Nilo Caracristi.
