Biography

Andrea Mogavero began studying the flute in 1992 after hearing the renowned French virtuoso Jean-Pierre Rampal, who became his principal guide and source of inspiration. He graduated with distinction from the Tito Schipa Conservatory in Lecce, Italy, and continued his studies with the international soloists Andrea Griminelli and Claudi Arimany.

He has collaborated with Sir James Galway, Massimiliano Damerini, Andrea Griminelli, Claudi Arimany, Lady Jeanne Galway, the Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson, Vittoria Yeo and the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation. In 2009 Shigenori Kudo invited him to study at the École Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris.

He also studied with flautists János Bálint and Pierre-Yves Artaud. He obtained a degree in music teaching at the Nino Rota Conservatory in Monopoli, a degree in solo flute performance at the Giovanni Paisiello Institute in Taranto, where he studied with Angelo Malerba, and a degree in chamber music.

He attended an advanced specialisation programme for wind players in solo and orchestral repertoire with Hans-Jörg Schellenberger—principal oboe of the Berlin Philharmonic from 1977 to 2001—Claudio Paradiso, Lorenzo Castriota Skanderbeg and Karl Martin. He also studied opera singing with Vanna Massari Camassa, a pupil of Tito Schipa.
