Emanuele Stracchi’s O alto e glorioso Dio (2025) sets the prayer before the crucifix attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi for solo soprano and chamber ensemble.
Lasting approximately nine minutes, the work unfolds in three sections: the original vernacular prayer, a version in modern Italian prose and a concluding Amen. The composer’s introductory note describes a continuous dialogue between voice and instruments, with contrapuntal and imitative writing shaping the music’s meditative character.
Instrumentation: soprano, flute, clarinet in B-flat, horn in F, two violins, viola, cello and double bass. The composer also permits an expanded string section of 4.3.2.2.1, with the wind instruments unchanged.
The volume includes the prayer text and introductory notes in Italian and English. The score states that instrumental parts are supplied as a complimentary digital copy on request from info@davinci-edition.com.
