Spring Times: New Perspectives for Flute and Piano
Eduard Sánchez and Enrique Bagaría return to Da Vinci Classics with a new recording bringing together Czerny, Beethoven and three world premiere recordings. Release: May 2027.

Da Vinci Classics announces Spring Times, a forthcoming album by flautist Eduard Sánchez and pianist Enrique Bagaría, scheduled for release in May 2027. Following their recordings of Hummel’s music for flute and piano, the two musicians extend their partnership through a programme that connects the early nineteenth century with works by Albert Guinovart, Ananda Sukarlan and Jorge Grundman.
The album brings two approaches to chamber dialogue into focus. Carl Czerny’s Duo Concertant for Flute and Piano, Op. 129, places the instruments together within a four-movement design. Beethoven’s Sonata No. 5 in F major, Op. 24, known as the Spring Sonata, is heard in a version for flute and piano, opening a new perspective on a work originally conceived for violin and piano.
Composed in 1800 and early 1801, Beethoven’s sonata combines an expansive opening Allegro with a slow movement, a concise Scherzo and a concluding Rondo. Its familiar seasonal nickname has no securely established origin. For this recording, that association becomes the starting point for a wider programme in which spring and light recur through the titles of contemporary compositions.
Three world premiere recordings form the other centre of the album. Guinovart’s Four Preludes of Light traces a succession from Morning Light through midday and afternoon to Dusk Light. Sukarlan’s Fishing in Spring, from The Springs of Vincent, introduces another seasonal image, while Grundman’s Sonata for Flute and Piano, Op. 98, bears the title The Blossoming of the Spring.
The programme gives the flute and piano several musical contexts in which to meet: the concertante partnership of Czerny, a new instrumental reading of Beethoven, and three contemporary works entering the recorded repertoire. Spring Times will bring these perspectives together in a release that continues Sánchez and Bagaría’s exploration of the possibilities of their chamber partnership.
